Over 200 cricketers trying luck in JKCA’s U-16, U-19 selection trials

JAMMU, May 21:

More than 200 cricketers are trying their luck in the ongoing Under-16 and Under-19 selection trials underway at Maulana Azad Stadium here.
Sharing the details, Chief Selector for the Junior category, Arun Sharma, who is in the town, said 210 cricketers in both Under-16 and Under-19 categories are playing matches being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) to select the probable from across the Jammu Division.
“After the recently conducted talent hunt by the JKCA, players were selected in these categories and they were divided into six teams,” said Sharma.
He stated that based on matches being conducted at M A Stadium, the selected probables will be qualified for league matches, adding, “The players will travel to Srinagar and play league matches while performances will decide the future course of action.”
The selector added that every year an improvement is being seen in cricket in Jammu especially the players from the remote belts are also very enthusiastic to attend the camps and many of them were selected.
“We are getting good stuff and even the parents are very enthusiastic in pushing their wards towards cricket,” he said and added that in the last three years, many youngsters from the far-flung hilly belts have attracted the selectors.
The priority of the JKCA is to search talent and it is the only criteria and preference, adding the selector said, “BCCI has taken several good initiatives and treating everyone at par resulted in our women teams performing very well at various national and international levels.”
“There are no shortcuts. Hard work and performance are the only ‘mantras’ to be acknowledged in life,” he stated.
He added that the Under-19 selection trial matches will be held till May 24 at M A Stadium. (UNI)
