JAMMU, Nov 9: The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) candidates will contest the District Development Council (DDC) elections on the symbol of parties they belonged as the Alliance didn’t get enough time for registration before the Election Commission for one symbol while the BJP today released list of 72 candidates for first two phases of polling.
National Conference president and PAGD chairman Dr Farooq Abdullah said the constituents of the PAGD wil contest elections on their respective party symbols as allotment of combine symbol may not be possible at this advanced stage of poll process.
“Now very little time is left and, therefore, the Alliance partners would contest on own party symbols. However, they will be joint candidates of the PAGD,” Dr Abdullah said.
Confirming that the PAGD candidates will contest the DDC elections on the symbol of their respective parties, PAGD spokesman Sajjad Lone told the Excelsior that they wanted to contest the polls on one symbol but for that they need registration before the Election Commission.
“As the elections had been announced and due to shortage of time, we have decided that the candidates of all political parties which are part of the PAGD will field candidates on their own symbols but there will be one candidate of the PAGD on one seat,” he said.
Seven parties formed the PAGD including National Conference, PDP, CPM, People’s Conference, Jammu Kashmir People’s Movement, Awami National Conference and CPI. The Congress has also announced that it will contest the elections in alliance with the PAGD.
The PAGD has authorized National Conference president and PAGD chairman Dr Farooq Abdullah to take final call on selecting candidates of the Alliance on all seats. The parties will submit list of their candidates to Dr Abdullah.
PCC president GA Mir told the Excelsior that the Congress has authorized the local units for adjustments with the PAGD candidates at the district level. However, he said, the Congress candidates will contest the election on their own symbol.
“It is a long drawn election process. Number of seats is high. New constituencies have been created and there will be new faces. We have asked the district units to keep secular candidates in mind and go for local adjustments,” Mir said.
Meanwhile, the BJP Election Committee today cleared names of 72 candidates for first two phases of the DDC elections.
BJP J&K president Ravinder Raina told the Excelsior after the meeting that the party planned to field some bigwigs in next phases of elections.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that National Conference (NC) and PDP are bemoaning Jammu’s misery for which they are themselves responsible and are shedding crocodile tears over the plight of Jammu which is an outcome of regional discrimination and injustice meted out to Jammu during over four decades of rule by these two political parties.
Dr Jitendra Singh, who arrived at the winter capital today for BJP Election Committee meeting to discuss probable candidates for ensuing DDC elections, was responding to the two days of continuous and intense sympathizing with Jammu by the National Conference and PDP leaders, one after the other.
He said it was during the National Conference and PDP rule of 40 years that the Civil Secretariat was systematically filled with employees from one particular region ignoring the rights of Jammu and Public Service Commission was manipulated to fill all the vacancies including those in professional colleges and higher education teaching institutions in such a way that the candidates from Jammu were left out by design.
As Minister for Department of Personnel & Training (DOPT), Dr Jitendra Singh asked, when the orders for abolition of interview in selection to Government jobs were issued across the country on the 1st of Jan 2016, what was it that prevented the PDP headed Government in Jammu & Kashmir from implementing this rule in spite of repeated reminders including personal letters written by him to the then Chief Minister.
This, he alleged, was done intentionally to eliminate the written test merit of Jammu candidates for various jobs by giving them poor marks in interview and denying them the selection.
Referring to the crocodile tears being shed by PDP and National Conference leaders over the daily wagers who, according to them, are on roads, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the question to be asked is who is responsible for bringing them on the road.
He said it is a commonly known fact that the Ministers in the successive Governments had doled out jobs for cash and bluffed the innocent youth by temporarily appointing them through the back door with the false assurance that they would become automatically permanent.
If these Governments were so sincere, why did they not regularize these employees during their tenure, it was because they were aware that this would invite litigation and also anger from the unemployed youth who were waiting for regular jobs through the normal selection process, he added.
The Modi Government, said Dr Jitendra Singh, is committed to redress each of the issues one by one, but let us not forget that this is a baggage of the last 70 years and will require at least 70 months to be cleared.
Moreover, he insisted that the Modi Government and the Home Ministry headed by Amit Shah follow a policy of creating employability rather than only Government jobs and this experiment has been successful even in North East where self-employment and self-livelihood avenues were created for the youth in the last six years even without providing salaried Government jobs to them.
Meanwhile, the BJP has fielded Sharda Bhau from Akhnoor, Suresh Sharma (Mera Mandrian), Bhushan Bral (Balwal Brahmana, Avtar Singh (Purmandal), Asha Rani, (Bari Brahmana-A), Ashia Choudhary (Bari Brahmana-B), Gulshan Begum (Budhal New), Jahan Bi (Moghla), Vipan Mehta (Dhangri), Sushma Thakur (Kalakote), Safeer Malik (Bufliaz), Mohammad Shabeer (Surankote-A), Abdul Aziz (Surankote-B), Abid Hussain (Marwah), Gul Hassan (Warwan), Swarni Devi (Dachan), Hari Krishan (Paddar), Hashan Din (Bhallesa), Mahatam Singh (Changa), Jaya Rani (Bhagwa), Santosha Devi (Kastigarh), Raja Rayaz (Ramsoo-A), Riswana Mir (Banihal-A), Shahnawaz Khanday (Banihal-B), Shaheeda Bano (Chassana), Mohammad Hussain (Chassana-A), Angrez Singh (Mahore-A), Madhu Bala (Dudu Basantgarh), Pinki Devi (Latti Marothi), Sunita Jamwal (Chenani), Gandharab Singh (Panchari), Reeta Devi (Bani), Kishore Kumar (Lohai Malhar), Tejinder Singh Goldi (Mahanpur) and Neeru Rajput (Mandli).
