Pak fires heavily in Samba, searches on in Kathua for suspects

JAMMU :  After a brief lull, Pakistan Rangers targeted forward Border Outposts and fired heavily in Samba district while searches were launched in Kathua district on seeing a group of suspects.
“Pakistan resorted to unprovoked heavy firing on forward BoPs in Suchetgarh area of Samba Sector,” official sources here today said.
They said Pakistan fired small arms, adding, “the firing started at 2300 hrs while the intermittent fire continued till 0600 hrs today.”
They said the BSF troops retaliated effectively with similar calibre weapons, adding that no injury or casualty was reported in
exchange of fire.
Meanwhile, search operation was launched in Kathua district on inputs regarding movement of suspects.    “Locals informed the police that a group of suspects was seen in Hariachak area following which police teams were dispatched and search operation launched,” a senior police official here said.
He said search is still in progress in the area.    Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police K Rajindera had said yesterday that security forces are on alert and any attempt of infiltration from across the border will be foiled.    He however, ensured peaceful and incident-free Republic Day celebrations.
