Pak troops opens new front; violate ceasefire in Gurez sector

SRINAGAR : Pakistani troops opened new front this time in Gurez sector in Bandipora district targeting forward posts on the Line of Control (LoC) and civilian areas today.
Official sources said Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling targeting forward posts on the LoC in Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) from three sides. Indian troops also retaliated and the exchange of fire continued.
They said some of the shells also fell near the dam site of Kishen Ganga Hydroelectric Power Project (KGHCP) and other civilians areas, causing panic among residents. The sources said work on the project has been stopped and engineers had now taken shelter in the tunnel. A number of civilians have also been staying in the tunnel.
There was no report of any loss of life on this side of the LoC, they said. Ceasefire violation in Gurez came a day after three soldiers were killed in action on the LoC in Machil sector. Body of one of the soldiers was also mutilated.
However, the Indian Army has vowed “heavy retribution for the cowardly act” by Pakistan. (AGENCIES)
