Panic triggers as ‘Thai Airways’ plane enters Indian territory

JAMMU : Panic gripped the bordering Ranbir Singh Pura belt here when a passenger plane of Thai Airways entered the Indian territory.

The officials from the Ministry of Defence, however, said it was not an ‘airspace violation’ by the neighbouring Pakistan.

“Farmers working in the fields at around 0955 hrs noticed a plane entering the Indian skies from Pakistan side, which triggered a panic button,” sources here told UNI.

They said on getting the information about the plane entering the Indian Territory from across the border, Border Security Force officials and Intelligence Agencies sounded alert and started investigating the matter.

“The plane entered from Suchetgarh Sub-Sector and remained in Indian skies for around 2 minutes,” sources said and added, “It had entered 500 meters inside the boundary and then returned back from Abdullian post.”

Meanwhile, Defence Spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta said because of bad weather conditions in the area from around 1000 hrs the flights were deviated from their track to circumvent weather hurdles.

He, however, denied ‘air space violation’ by Pakistan.

Sources further said it was an international flight of ‘Thai Airways’ and had got permission from the air control room to enter the Indian Territory in view of inclement weather. (AGENCIES)
