BASOHLI, June 14: Asserting that a healthy physique leads to a healthy mind, Col Mahan Singh, District Development Council (DDC) Kathua Chairman has asked the youth to make sports a routine in their life.
He stated this in his address on the conclusion of Annual Dangal Mela held at Plassi in which besides the wrestlers from Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, the wrestlers from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana also took part.
He was the chief guest during this popular wrestling event in the area that was witnessed by around thirty thousand people amid thunderous applauds by them for the participating performers.
The Mali (Final) of the event was won by Pardeep Pahalwan from Haryana for which Rs. 1.5 lakh was the prize money. Pradeep Pahalwan giving a tough fight to his opponent Mohd Gani of Punjab finally made him bite the dust in the last set of wrestling bouts.
It is pertinent to mention here that both the finalists are renowned wrestlers in their respective regions.
The special attraction on the occasion was a Dogri musical event that mesmerized the audience comprising the people having come to witness the wrestling event from nearby villages as well as from bordering States.
In his address, Col Mahan Singh said that the Annual Dangal Mela is not merely a sports event is but much more than that as it provides an opportunity to the people to interact and understand the people of other areas besides augmenting National Integration. He said that the wrestlers coming from other States for participating in this event carry back the memories pertaining to scenic beauty of the area besides the hospitality of the people in this hilly region. He asserted that these wrestlers act as our ambassadors in their respective regions thus promoting our niceties.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were ND Tripathi District Development Council Member Nagrota Gujroo, Darshan Choudhary, Senior Advocate Ravinder Sharma, Bharatiya Janata Party Leader Ram Chand, Capt Harnam and Naresh Thakur.
