JAMMU, Feb 11: After Anju Bala and Dheeraj, another boxer from J&K Pardeep Sharma sailed into the semis of the boxing event during the ongoing 35th National Games at Kerala.
J&K boxer Pardeep Sharma smashed Nitin Raj of Kerala in the quarterfinal round and registered berth in the semis. The score remained 17-17 points during three bouts and during individual scoring Pardeep Sharma won by 3 punches (51-48).
In pre-quarterfinal stage, Pardeep Sharma smashed Nazar Hussain by 40-19 points in 49 kg weight category and sailed into the quarterfinal round.
Earlier, J&K Boxer Anju Bala after displaying marvelous skills smashed Katri Devi of Orissa in the 60 kg category and sailed into the semis. In 60 kg, Dheeraj of J&K after proving his mettle outclassed international player Manjeet Singh of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) and registered berth in the semifinal stage.
The J&K Boxing team is being led by Senior Boxing Coach, J&K State Sports Council, Anil Kumar Wadhera and general secretary, J&K Boxing Association, Dr Nirmolak Singh.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir fencer Vishal Thapar lost to Tamil Nadu in the semifinal of the individual event in fencing event and secured bronze medal for the State.
The J&K fencer claimed the medal under the supervision and guidance of Coach Shotu Lal Sharma.
