JAMMU, June 28: In a rare case of honour killing in Jammu, a couple allegedly killed their young daughter for refusing to heed their advise of marrying a boy against their wishes in Channi Rama and threw his body in Ahmedabad Express, which has been recovered by the police.
The couple was absconding, SSP Railways Shiv Kumar Sharma said.
Mr Sharma identified the girl killed by her parents as Ritu Kumari, a resident of Esha Nagar in Mukama area of Patna, Bihar.
Her father Ram Preet Paswan was Grade-III employee posted Food Corporation of India’s Narwal depot and was residing at rented accommodation at Channi Rama along with his wife.
Mr Sharma said the preliminary investigations have revealed that Ritu Kumari wanted to marry Raju son of Avtar Paswan of Patna, who was also residing in Channi Rama. However, parents of both the girl and the boy were opposed to the marriage.
The parents of Ritu Kumari were reported to have strangulated their daughter to death and dumped his body at Ahmedabad Express, which was recovered by the Railways Police.
Police sent the body to Government Medical College, Jammu where a Board of Doctors conducted the post-mortem.
Police said Raju, the lover of the girl has identified the body. Soon after the girl was identified after a week of the recovery of her body from the train, police raided Channi Rama residence of her parents but they had gone underground.
The SSP Railways said a team has been sent to Patna to arrest the alleged accused. A case has been registered at Railways police station for further investigations, which were being conducted by SHO Railways Inspector Surinder Samyal.
