JAMMU, Dec 21: Speedster Dhruv Singh Parmar took 6 vital wickets to help Jammu and Kashmir bundle out Saurashtra for paltry 95 runs in their first innings and concede a lead of 26 runs in the ongoing match of Cooch Behar Trophy Under-19 Cricket Tournament at KC Sports Club ground, here today.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 26/2, Saurashtra batsmen failed to show any application and the whole team collapsed at a meagre total of 95 runs, thus J&K gained a first innings lead of 26 runs. Skipper Siddhant Rana (15) and P Rana unbeaten (14) were among few batsmen to cross the double figure mark. Dhruv Singh Parmar was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 6 wickets by conceding 36 runs in his 19.2 overs, while Basit Bashir claimed 2 wickets by giving away 40 runs in his 19 overs.
Jammu and Kashmir batsmen failed to impress in the second essay also as opener Dikshant Kundal (23), skipper Musaif Ajaz (18), Sampark Gupta (14) and Govind Sharma (13) were the batsmen to cross the double figure mark. The team managed to score 107 runs in 39.2 overs, thus setting a target of 134 runs for the visitors. From Saurashtra, spinners Dev Dand and Yuuvrajsinh bagged 3 wickets each, while first innings hero Neel Pandya and P Rana claimed 2 wickets each.
Now, chasing a target of 134 runs for victory, Saurashtra were 28/1 at the draw of stumps on day-2 today. Leg-spinner Govind Sharma was the successful bowler, who trapped skipper Siddhant Rana for his individual score of 17 runs. Abhishek Nagvadiya (10) and J Govil (0) were at the crease at stumps today.
With two days game left in the match and Saurashtra needing 106 more runs to win, one gets a feeling that it would not be a cakewalk for the visitors as contrary to first day’s play when medium pacers dominated the game, day-2 witnessed spinners spinning web and spitting venom.
Jammu and Kashmir is playing with three spinners including left-arm spinner (last match’s hero), Sampark Gupta, leggie Govind Sharma and debutant offie Nityam Abrol, who will have to pull their socks and hit the right areas, make use of the rough patches on third day’s wicket, to make the things difficult for Saurashtra.
The day-3 game will be a delight to watch for the spectators tomorrow.
