Parthenium awareness campaign continues in SKUAST Jammu

JAMMU Aug 20: Continuing the pursuit, a two days student activity in Faculty of Agriculture, Main Campus, SKUAST-J, Chatha was organized under the aegis of Indian Society of Weed Science and Directorate of weed Science (ICAR) in collaboration with the Division of Agronomy.
The activity was organized to show the visibility of society wherein debates and seminar activities were taken up to make about 50 students and 20 scientists aware of the challenges in future herbicidal weed management for food security and abuses of congress grass (Parthenium) which have created havoc throughout the country vis-a-vis reduction in crop productivity, imposing health hazards and reducing the land resource value.
A team of experts of SKUAST Jammu comprising of Dr Anil Kumar, Dr BC Sharma (PI and Co-PI of AICRP on Weed Control), Dr Dileep Kachroo, Head, Division of Agronomy, Dr Jai Kumar, Parmender Singh and Akhil Verma along with Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr JP Sharma participated.
The OSD to Vice Chancellor, Dr Parmod Baru appraised the students and faculty members about the importance of weed management in present day agriculture.
The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks presented by Dr B C Sharma.
