PEDDAPURAM (AP), June 15: Patanjali as a part of its ‘Mission Palm Plantation’ is aiming to connect with 5 lakh farmers across the country.
This was stated by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev during a press conference here in Palm Plantation Farm and Nursery. He said the company has already planted 1 crore palm saplings and they will plant in 15-20 lakh acre areas in the next five years which will help the country to be self sufficient when it comes to edible oils. He said currently, around 40000 farmers have been associated with Patanjali in the ‘Mission Palm Plantation’.
Ramdev said that while supporting the Government of India’s mission of Atmanirbharta towards self-sufficiency in edible oils, Patanjali Foods has taken a large initiative of Palm Plantation programme which, in the fullness of time, will become one of the largest and the most sustainable businesses of the agricultural projects in the country.
“The company is the largest player in the Palm plantation business in the country on the basis of the allocated area of 0.6 million hectares and planted area of 64,000 hectares. Going forward, it has set a vision to scale up the plantation area to 0.4 million hectares in the next 5 years.
He said that the company has entered into MoUs with 12 State Governments under PPP model which will help it maintain an asset-light business model with sustainable high margins. Any investments made in this business in the next 5 years will yield benefits for the company over the next 7-25 years, he asserted.
The Yogaguru informed that the company has five operating mills in the state of Andhra Pradesh; two in Ampapuram, two in Peddapuram and one in Karnataka district Mysore having 0.94 mn mt capacity and has plans to ramp it up to 2.27 mn mt by putting up new facilities in a phased manner.
He said the company currently has 26 nurseries all over India and planning to scale it upto 197 nurseries in the next 5 years. To support its nurseries, the company currently imports 4.6 mn sprouts which will increase to over 62 mn by the end of 5th year.
