RAMNAGAR, Sept 7: After conducting an extensive tour of the hilly area of Ramnagar and taking stock of damages caused due to incessant rains, RS Pathania, general secretary, Pradesh Youth Congress, has sought immediate announcement of compensation for maize-crop losses in Ramnagar.
A crisis-like situation has been prevailing in areas of Ramnagar, Majalta and scores of villages, Khaed, Ponara, Lodhra, Mang, Jofar, Balota, Basantgarh, Siameri, Pachound, Majori, Bari Ladana and other higher reaches of Ramnagar where incessant rains have caused whopping losses to standing maize-crops.
At several places crop-loss is 100%, creating threats of starvation over there, particularly in certain hilly and far-flung areas, where people survive on only maize-crop as the only ‘Rabi’ season crop, he said, adding people living in ‘kucha’ houses have been rendered houseless as either their houses have collapsed or partially damaged and no more fit and safe for living.
While welcoming Central and State Government’s step of announcing relief package for flood-hit areas, Pathania further called for expediting assessment and disbursement of relief.
