RAJOURI, July 16: The relatives and villagers from Mubarakpura in Rajouri held protest demonstration after a 55-year-old patient died in GMC Hospital (GMCH) Rajouri due to alleged negligence of doctors and other medical staff this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Dharmpal (55), son of Manohar Lal, resident of village Karayian in Muparkpura Panchayat near Rajouri. The family members alleged that Dharampaul was brought to GMC Hospital Rajouri at around 4 am early today. A junior doctor attended him after repeated requests but his condition went on deteriorating. They pleaded the staff to call senior doctor to attend the serious patient but nobody came despite emergency.
After looking condition of patient, they further requested the same junior doctor to provide ambulance and refer the patient to Jammu but he refused and said seniors will come and see the patient and then decide about referring the patient. The patient collapsed at around 10.30 am but till then no senior doctor came to the hospital to attend the serious patient. They arrived at around 10.45 am, they alleged.
By then some relatives of the deceased had also arrived. Village Sarpanch Karan Salyar also arrived along with the villagers. The villagers and relatives then kept the body of the deceased at the front gate of the hospital and started protest against the doctors and medical staff. They demanded registeration of FIR and suspension of seniors.
Later, Assistant Commissuioner Revenue, Rajouri Ashraf Choudhary and DySP arrived the spot. ACR assured to hold inquiry and take action in this regard. Then the relatives and villages lifted body and suspended protest. Then a delegation of the villagers led by Sarpanch also met DC Rajouri who assured fair inquiry into the matter.
The villagers alleged that this has become habit of the senior doctors at Rajouri hospital not to attend patients during odd hours. They do not turn up even on emergency calls. Principal of the GMC has failed to take action against the senior doctors. They sought intervention of the higher authorities in J&K UT into the matter.
Meanwhile, Civil Society members of Rajouri appealed LG Administration to completely overhaul the Hospital Administration and fix responsibility for the negligence and wrong doings of some doctors in Rajouri hospital.
