JAMMU, June 3: For the third consecutive day, today, the patients at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu and associated hospitals remained deprived of free morning diet provided by the Government, as the firm responsible for supplying diet to the patients in these hospitals has refused to provide breakfast to the patients due to non-payment of huge liabilities by the administration of these hospitals.
According to the proprietors of the Mahamaya Sales Corporation, Jammu, Rakesh Choudhary and Atul Gupta, who deal with supplying of diet to the patients in these hospitals, they wrote not only once but many times to the administration of the concerned hospitals to clear their pending dues which are in crores but they failed to do so, forcing them to stop morning diet of the patients.
They said that on 11th of last month, they have written to the Member Secretary (Purchase Committee), GMCH and associated hospitals, Jammu informing him that they would be unable to continue to make of supplies of diets to all the hospitals, as they had incurred huge liabilities to their suppliers while the payments to their bills of hospital diets were pending since long. But they ignored our request forcing us to stop the morning diet.
“We wish to bring to your kind notice that we will be forced to stop the supply of breakfast (bread and milk) to the patients from June 1, 2015 unless our payments are cleared immediately. We are sorry to resort to this action but our financial position does not allow us to continue the supply of diet”, the letter written by the corporation to Member Secretary (Purchase Committee), GMCH and associated hospitals reads.
According to the reports, the total pending dues of the corporation on account of diet are 1, 83,13,009 till May 31. Out of the total amount, Rs 38, 24, 336 are pending with GMCH, Rs 69, 83, 595 with SMGS Hospital, Rs 15, 74,099 with Super Specialty Hospital, Rs 37, 67,055 with Chest Diseases Hospital, Rs 8, 84, 482 with PSY Diseases Hospital, Rs 10, 46, 020 with Gandhi Nagar Hospital and Rs 2, 33,422 with Sarwal Hospital.
However, when contacted, Medical Superintendent, GMCH Jammu, Dr Ravinder Ratan Paul, said that they had deposited some bills regarding patients’ diet in the Treasury for clearance but they are not in a position to clear all dues, as they are short of funds.
“We have taken up the matter with the concerned Ministry and as soon as we get more funds the pending liabilities of the Firm on account of diet will be cleared”, he said, adding we are in touch of the suppliers and hope that the matter will be settled soon in the interest of the patients.
