JAMMU, Sept 12: For her consistent performance with both bat and ball, talented all-rounder Payal Choudhary of Royal Women Cricket Club (RWCC) Jammu was adjudged woman of the series in the 3-match Cricket Cup between Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) XI and RWCC Jammu, organized by Senior Cricket Coach Roop Basant at HMV College ground in Jallandhar.
Formidable PCA XI won the first two matches with a convincing margin, while the third match was won by RWCC in a close contest by a narrow margin.
Earlier, in the first match, PCA registered a 19-run win over RWCC in a close contest.
Batting first, PCA scored 131 runs in the stipulated 35 overs, with Reva (26), Meenu (23), Shranjit (20), Asha (14) and Diksha (13) being the main contributors. For RWCC, Sandhya Sayal captured 3 wickets, while Payal and Nayana claimed 2 wickets each.
In reply, RWCC managed to score 112 runs in the allotted overs by losing 8 wickets, thus lost the match by 19 runs. Payal top scored with 53 runs, while Nayana and Anju contributed 22 and 18 runs to the total respectively. For PCA, Asha scalped 3 wickets, Reva and Mehak took wickets each, while Ritu and Diksha claimed one wicket each.
In another match, PCA trounced RWCC by a convincing margin of 42 runs. PCA scored 151 runs, with Reva and Jaskaran contributing 55 and 31 runs to the total respectively. For RWCC, Rohini Bharti claimed one wicket and ran out another one through brilliant piece of fielding.
In reply, RWCC managed to score 109 runs in the allotted overs, thus lost the match by a margin of 42 runs. Payal again slammed a brilliant half-century, scoring 51 runs, while Anju, Upasana and Nayana contributed 22, 15 and 12 runs to the total respectively. For PCA, Diksha bagged 3 wickets, while Mehak claimed two.
In the third match, RWCC scripted a thrilling win over PCA by a narrow margin of 4 runs.
Batting first, RWCC scored 100 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Payal again top scored with 38 runs, while Anju, Nayana and Upasana scored 30, 15 and 12 runs to the total respectively. Ritu claimed 3 wickets for PCA, while Mehak took 2 and Diksha picked one.
In reply, PCA bundled out for paltry 96 runs, thus lost the match by 4 runs. Meenu (30), Reva (20), Jaskaran (16) and Asha (10) were the main contributors. For RWCC, Upasana took 3 wickets, Payal, Sandhya and Nayana claimed 2 wickets each, while Rohini picked one.
RWCC team was accompanied by Rupali Slathia as coach, Anita Gupta as manager and Anshu Dewan as physio, while Varinder Sharma, SAI cricket coach has appreciated the initiative of the Principal HMV College Jallandhar, Rekha B Kalia and senior cricket coach, Roop Basant in organizing the event.
