JAMMU, Sept 9: Pazhany Kohli and Alankrita Sharma emerged as champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively at the J&K UT Chess Championship.
The event, organized by the All J&K Chess Association under the banner of the J&K Sports Council, took place at Nek Hotel, Jammu.
In a closely contested match, Paras Sharma secured second place in the boys’ category, tying on points with champion Pazhany Kohli but losing in the tie-breaker. Ishwam Kawatra claimed third place. In the girls’ category, Aahana Gupta finished as the runner-up, while Miraya Sharma secured third place.
The tournament was conducted in accordance with FIDE laws and the latest international chess rules under the supervision of Atul Kumar Gupta, working president of the AJKCA. The prize distribution ceremony was officiated by SHO Nowabad Deepak Pathania, with Baldev Raj (president of AJKCA), Ravi Kumar (president of Kathua district), Advocate Himani Kohli, and chief arbiter Arvindu Sharma in attendance.
The top two players from both categories will represent J&K in the upcoming National Championship in Telangana.
