RAJOURI, Nov 12: A colourful programme regarding PC-PNDT Act (Pre-conceptual and Prenatal Sex Selection/Determination-2006) was conducted at Govt Girls Hr Secondary School, Sunderbani, here today.
The programme was organized by a volunteer organization ‘Society for Scheduled and Backwards, Jammu and was sponsored by the PC-PNDT Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India, New Delhi.
The Act, interalea, seeks to ban the use of sex selection techniques before and after conception as well as misuse of prenatal diagnostic techniques for sex selective abortions and to regulate such techniques.
General secretary of the implementing agency, Tariq Mirza said that the act also provides provision for strict action against those individuals and genetic laboratories /clinics/centers which offer sex determination services. Similar penalty provisions exist for those who seek such services also.
Renowned social worker, Arun Khajuria sensitized the huge gathering about the reconstitution of regulatory bodies.
Dr Govind Sharma, BMO Sunderbani, Rajouri also delivered a very informative and decisive lecture and sensitized about the role of NRHM, PRIs, NGOs, Doctors, Paramedics/ ASHAs/ Staff Nurses/ AWW etc which was appreciated by everybody.
Zulifkar Malik, Advocate J&K High Court, Jammu head of the legal cell of the implementing agency made aware the public/audience about the legal prospects of the PC-PNDT act in detail.
The Principal of the school, Kundan Lal Raina, appreciated the steps taken by the organization to implement such type of programmes and invited the organization to conduct such programmes in future also.
Prizes were presented to the participants on the occasion.
Later-on, vote of thanks was presented by the secretary of the organization.
