JAMMU, Dec 2: State Pollution Control Board (PCB) organized a painting event for the students of various schools, to mark the National Pollution Control Day, here today.
The theme of the event was “Conserve Water, Save Tawi”, wherein a number of students from Delhi Public School, Army Public School Domana, Army Public School, Kaluchack and Jodhamal Public School, Jammu participated.
The event was held at Bagh-e-Bahu, at the back drop of River Tawi to memorialize thousands of human beings who lost their existence because of the Bhopal Gas Calamity.
The event was on the theme of water conservation in line with the International year of water cooperation, declared by the United National General Assembly.
The objective was to highlight the disaster which stuck Bhopal on the intervening night of December 2 and 3 in 1984, because of discharge of the poisonous chemical-Methyl Isocyanate as well as some other chemicals released from the Union Carbide Chemical Plant, positioned in the city.
The programme was presided over by Arun Tikku, Member Secretary, J&K SPCB and attended by Sajjad Mufti, Regional Director SPCB Jammu, J.N. Sharma, Environmental Engineer, J&K SPCB, Neelu Sharma, Principal Scientific Officer, J&K SPCB besides other officers and officials of the Board.
Later trophies were distributed among the participating schools besides participation certificates and books on environment.
