PDC (B) & Sher-e-Punjab register resounding wins, advance to quarterfinal round

JAMMU, Mar 6: PDC (B) and Sher-e-Punjab today registered resounding wins over their opponent teams and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the ongoing 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament being organized by All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) and J&K Sports Council at Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College football ground here today.
In the first match which was played between PDC (B) and Churchill brothers, the latter lost the match by five goals to zero (5-0).
During the first half of the match, Amanjot Singh of PDC (B) netted the first goal in the last minute (40th minute) and put a lead of one goal over Churchill Brothers.
In the second half, players of Churchill Brothers tried to equalize the goal, but failed as aggressive Rahul Kumar of PDC (B) scored another goal in the 47th minute and raised the scorecard to 2-0 goals.
In the 55th minute, Davin scored the third goals and just after eight minutes, Sahil Dar netted the goal and further raised the scoreboard to 4-0 goals.
The players of Churchill Brothers lost the momentum, when Abid netted the fifth goal in the 69th minute.
After 69th minute, the Churchill Brothers players, who were looking dominated in front of the players of PDC (B) failed to score even a single goal and thus lost the match by 5-0 goals.
In the second match of the day, Sher-e-Punjab registered seven goals to zero (7-0) victory over Vijay Club and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
The first goal of the match was netted by Dilvar Singh of Sher-e-Punjab in the 7th minute of the first half, while Rakesh Kumar with his superb footwork, scored the goal in the 9th minute and brought the opponent team under pressure.
Vijay Club players were trying to score a goal, but all in vain as the enthusiastic player of Sher-e-Punjab Dilvar Singh again bounced back and netted the goal in the 25th minute.
After 25th minute, no goal was scored from both the sides and the first half ended with a lead of three goals over Vijay Club.
In the second half, fully enthusiastic Rakesh Kumar of Sher-e-Punjab made a come back and netted three goals in 47th, 54th and 57th minute and raised the scorecard to 6-0 goals.
Just after two minutes of the sixth goal in the 57th minute, Varinder Singh scored the seventh goal of the match and further raised the already rising pressure on the opponent Vijay Club.
During the match, players of Vijay Club tried their level best to claim the match, but failed and thus lost the match by seven goals to zero (7-0) and paved way for Sher-e-Punjab to sail into the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.
The matches were officiated by Koushal Kumar, Suresh Gupta, Hilal Ahmed, Rohit Kumar Gupta, Vijay Kumar, Sohan Kumar and Gagan Kumar.
In tomorrow’s fixture, J&K Police will clash with Sher-e-Punjab in the quarterfinal round, whereas PDC (B) will take on J&K Bank.
The remaining knockout match will also be played tomorrow between Young Heroes and NGR.
The tournament is being organized by Narinder Gupta, president, All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association.
