JAMMU, Nov 21: ‘Kaam Choro Hartal’ by the daily wagers of Power Development Department (PDD) entered 92nd day here.
Large number of PDD daily wagers from different areas of Jammu region, who are protesting in the premises of Chief Engineers Office raised slogans in favour of their demands. They alleged that the Government has turned blind eye towards their issues, which has led to starvation.
Later, the protesters took out a protest rally towards the residence of Deputy Chief Minister, but the heavy police contingent stopped them.
The protest rally was led by State President, All Jammu Province Casual and Need Based workers Union, Akhil Sharma. Shesh Kumar, President, Jammu Province, Sham Sharma, Vice President, Sanjeev, General Secretary and Sawar Khan, Secretary were also part of the protest rally.
While speaking, Akhil Sharma projected demands including release of wages from wages head pending for last 50 to 60 months, regularization policy, insurance policy and compensation to death and handicapped workers.
He stated that as 92 days have passes, the Government is not taking any decision regarding their genuine demands. Many workers died during this period, but PDD not giving the compensation to the next kin of the deceased, he added.
Despite release of funds to PDD, 3375 workers are still waiting to get their monthly wages till date, he said.
Among others present were Vishal, Ashish Verma, Ashwani Kumar, Naresh Sharma, Shamsher Singh and Simranjeet Singh.
