JAMMU, July 16: The strike of daily wagers of PDD in the office of Chief Engineer, EM&RE, here at Canal Road in support of their demand of regularizing pending daily wagers, entered into 18th day today.
The daily wagers of PDD under the banner of All J&K PDD Daily Wagers Union are on continuous strike since June 26 demanding justice in the shape of regularization of pending daily wagers and raising voice against the inaction on the part of authorities.
While speaking on the occasion, speakers said that the though Jammu is the largest district in Jammu province yet only 321 daily wagers have been regularized whereas only 60 have been regularized in Kathua district. “On comparing with other districts of Jammu province, it has been observed that the daily wagers of Udhampur, Doda, Rajouri and Poonch districts have been regularized upto 2004 whereas the daily wagers of Jammu and Kathua districts have been regularized upto September 1997 and March 1995, respectively, which is sheer injustice with daily wagers of Jammu and Kathua districts”, they alleged.
They said if compared with daily wagers of Kashmir province, the injustice have been done with the daily wagers of Jammu province, as the formers have been regularized upto 2005.
The speakers urged the concerned authorities to adopt same yard stick for regularization of daily wagers of PDD irrespective of the district and province they belong.
Meanwhile, MLA Bishnah constituency, Kamal Arora, today visited the agitating union members and assured them his full support in getting their demands redressed. Besides, Harsh Dev Singh and Yash Paul Kundal, both ex-MLAs and ex-Ministers also visited them and assured that the matter will be taken up with the Chief Minister for immediate redressal.
The Union also made it clear that Tarun Gupta is not related in any way with the daily Wagers Union since 2013, as he at present a permanent employee of the department.
