KISHTWAR, June 8: Lashing out at the State Government for its cruel joke with the people affected during devastating floods and rains, Pradesh Congress Committee president Ghulam Ahmed Mir ridiculed the coalition regime for rejecting the Rs 44,000 crore relief and rehabilitation package formulated by the previous NC-Congress Government in the State.
Addressing Congress workers’ convention of district Kishtwar here today, Mr Mir ridiculed the State Government for rejecting the Rs 44,000 crore relief package for the flood and rain affected people as stated by the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh wherein, he has claimed that only Rs 1,500 crore is needed for the rehabilitation of the affected people out of which only Rs 1,000 crore would be provided by the Centre for the purpose.
He severely criticized the PDP-BJP coalition for being insensitive to the sufferings of the flood and rain affected people who lost their everything and said that the Government is adding insult to their sufferings. He said that the present coalition has failed to procure funds needed for the relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by floods and it was offering peanuts in the shape of less than Rs 100 to the farmers who lost their crops in the rains.
PCC chief said that the present Coalition Govt is now hiding its failure to secure financial assistance for the worst kind of devastation and is now befooling the people by heavily under estimating the losses on this account as stated by the DyCM. Mir said that the BJP and the PDP leadership is hoodwinked the people during the election rallies to check-mate each other from entering the corridors of power and polarized the situation to the hilt.
Mr Mir said that the Batote-Kishtwar road is in highly deplorable condition and has got converted into a death trap but the Government is indifferent to the hardships of the people. He referred to the various initiatives of the Congress led UPA Government on the initiative of the Congress party for the development and welfare of the people of erstwhile Doda district on various fronts. He referred to the contributions of leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad (MP) for the development of the backward region, which needs carry forward of the initiatives and special attention in view of its topography as a vast remote and hilly terrain.
Several prominent leaders of the party including GM Saroori (MLA), Gulzar Ahmed Wani (MLA), Haider Sheikh, Th Balbir Singh (Ex-MLA), MLC Naresh Gupta, Ashok Dogra (Ex-MLA), Pardeep Parihar, Anayatullah Rather and Nek Ram Manhas spoke on the occasion.
Mr. G. M. Saroori-MLA & Vice President PCC in his address referred to the numerous achievements and initiatives of the Congress party during the UPA regime and the coalition in the state towards the developmental and administrative as well as other measures for the welfare of the people of this region. He said that the Congress is the only party which can ensure balanced and equitable development of each and every part and regions of the state in view of its secular and progressive approach and vision for the overall development of the state. He referred to various local problems of the district and other parts and criticized the lack of initiative of the present government at the centre and the state towards the hardships of the people of the region and demanded special attention in this regard.
