PDP exploring all options to end stalmate in J&K

SRINAGAR: Even though the National Conference (NC) has said it was not interested in any grand alliance, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said all options are still open to end the stalmate following hung Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir.
The PDP has a number of options, but the second largest party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has just one option that is to join PDP to occupy the treasury benches in the 12th Legislative Assembly as NC has already announced not to support the saffron party.
Congress and three other members have also offered unconditional support to PDP to keep the BJP away from power in the state.
The NC spokesperson Junaid Mattoo said it was not interested in any grand alliance of PDP, NC and Congress, the idea floated by former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Reacting to the statement of Mr Mattoo, chief spokesperson of the PDP Nayeem Akhtar said Mr Azad has floated the idea of grand alliance.
“We have no comment to offer on this statement,” he said, but added all options are still open before the party. The NC spokesperson said, “we are not interested in grand alliance with a national party which is Congress. “If Mehbooba quotes imaginatively that PDP has the support of 55, let her form the government in the state,” he added.
“But, we are not interested in grand alliance. Infact we were not approached by the PDP for any such alliance. “We are interested in offering support to a regional party, that is PDP, for regional political agenda”he said. Mr Azad has floated the idea of a grand alliance to keep BJP away from the government formation in the Jammu and Kashmir, where no party has reached the 44 figure in the 87-member House.
The NC and Congress have however, offered unconditional support to the PDP.
