Srinagar, Mar 17: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the “brazen misuse” of official machinery and resources by the ruling National Conference by ferrying wazwan in police vehicles during their party meeting at Nawai-e-Subhe last week.
PDP chief spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar, said they have shot a letter the ECI for taking appropriate action to prevent the ruling parties from using state resources for their partisan ends.
“While nobody could question the choice of dishes, it was also reported that the feast was carried in police vehicles. This is a brazen misuse of official machinery and resources for carrying out party activities on any given day. But in the context of the ongoing electoral exercise we believe this is an unabashed violation of the Model Code of Conduct, which deserves a serious notice by the Election Commission of India (ECI),” Akhtar said quoting from the letter sent to the ECI reads.
“The letter has also pointed out that apart from Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, most Ministers, Member Parliaments and legislators had participated in the lunch served through police,” Akhtar said.
He said when entire Kashmir was mourning the killing of a youth in Naidkahi village of Sumbal area by police and was upset with the devastation caused by the untimely snow fury in most parts of the state, NC was relishing wazwaan.
Akhtar said this is not the first time the Government has displayed such a shameless behaviour.
