PULWAMA, Nov 20: Violating Model Code of Conduct People’s Democratic Party’s flag strips were found tucked to lampposts and the hoardings of Rajpora candidate for Assembly elections Haseeb Drabu on grills of the divider.
The hoardings and the flag strips were installed on the day when PDP candidates for Pulwama and Rajpora were going to file their nomination papers before their concerned Returning Officers.
Moreover, the PDP leaders also organized a rally in Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (SICOP) premises.
Demanding stringent action against the erring party and candidates for committing the violation National Conference Candidate for Rajpora constituency Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Mir said that this violation should be reported to Election Commission of India and the State Electoral Officer.
“If PDP has been allowed to install flag strips and hoardings why other parties have been directed to de-install flag strips,” said Mohi-ud-Din Mir.
Independent Candidate from Rajpora constituency and noted advocate of Jammu and Kashmir Syed Reyaz Khawar said that it was violation of Representation of People’s Act (1957).
“Under this law nobody is permitted to deface Government property and if anybody wants to install a hoarding it should have gone through proper attestation,” said Khawar, adding that the party and the candidates should be penalized according to law.
While confirming the MCC, Deputy Commissioner said that he has directed concerned Nodal Officer to de-install the flag strips and hoardings as early as possible and a proper action should be taken.
