RAJOURI, Mar 21: The people from Palma area in Rajouri, located on Rajouri- Budhal road, held protest and blocked road, raising slogans against the concerned departments and the district administration, over shortage of electricity and drinking water.
The local residents including men and women of Ward No. 11 of Palma came out on the road and held demonstration by blocking the Rajouri- Budhal road. They were raising loud slogans against PHE and PDD authiorities besides District administration.
The protesters expressed their strong anger and said that for the last 20 days, electricity is not coming properly in their ward due to which they were facing acute shortage of drinking water. Even during the holy month of Ramadan, people have to protest for basic facilities like water and electricity.
Expressing resentment over the issue, they said that despite repeated requests for restoration of power supply, the PDD officials failed to improve the supplies. With this the water supply has also been badly hit, they added.
After about 2 hours of protest, the police reached the spot and pacified the protesters and assured them that they would solve the problem by this evening after talking to the concerned officials of both the departments, after which the protesters suspended their agitation. A large number of vehicles remained stranded on the road.
