REASI, Sept 21: Hundreds of locals today staged protest and dharna against the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) for not recruiting the locals in their ongoing construction work at Dugga in Arnas block of Reasi district.
The unemployed educated youth of Arnas staged dharna at tunnel number 13 at Dugga and raised slogans against HCC authorities. The demonstration was held under the leadership of Ex Sarpanch Raman Kumar while scores of unemployed degree and diploma holders and educated unemployed youths participated in the protest.
“This is high time the district administration should come forward for the support of general public”, Raman Kumar said and asked the concerned construction company to recruit locals in their projects. He further alleged that the officers sitting at the helm of affairs were taking people of Reasi for granted by recruiting outsiders. He warned the administration as well as the HCC authorities that if their demands are not fulfilled they will come on road and block main road.
“By taking their land, the company has made hundreds of youth unemployed and now it is the responsibility of the company to provide them employment” he said.
Raman demanded employment for local unemployed skilled educated youths and engineers by the contractor companies engaged by HCC for construction work at tunnel no 13 and other sites.
Later on, Tehsildar Arnas and SHO Arnas visited the protest site and assured them to take up their demands before the higher authorities.
