JAMMU, Oct 30 : Post Graduate Department of Arts of Jammu University today clinched the Inter College Boys Football Tournament by beating Government Degree College, Udhampur in the final Match here at GGM Science College.
PG Department of Arts Jammu University beat Government Degree College, Udhampur by 3-1 and won the tournament organized by GGM Science College. Gagan Deep Singh of PG Arts pelted 1st goal in 13th minute of the match. The 2nd and 3rd goal was scored by Netaishwer Singh of the same team in 36th and 60th minute of the match respectively. The lone goal scored by GDC Udhampur was netted by Lakhwinder Singh in 45th minute of the match.
The Tournament was organized by GGM Science College Jammu on behalf of Directorate of Physical Education, University of Jammu, in which 17 teams from different Colleges of Jammu and University of Jammu participated.
Minister for Planning, Labour and Employment, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra was the chief guest on the occasion, while Director Physical Education, Jammu University, Prof. Dhyan Singh Bhau was guest of honour.
Principal of GGM Science College, Prof. Satinder Singh, Physical Director, Vinod Bakshi, Prof. Ranjodh Singh Jamwal from GDC, Udhampur, faculty members from different colleges and sports lovers in large number were present on the occasion.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony, the Minister said that the government has taken several measures including creation of massive infrastructure to promote sports in the state. He said the development of infrastructure right from Panchayat halqa has helped to revive sports in the state.
“The sports activities in the State have received a fresh lease of life with the construction of stadiums and play grounds in every nook and corner” , he said and added that sports and games are best medium to channelize energies of youth in a right direction. He said promotion of football in the state has received special attention in recent past.
