AMMU, Nov 14: Defeating GDC Kathua in a close contest by three goals to two (3-2), PG Arts lifted the title trophy in the Inter-Collegiate Hockey (Men) Tournament, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at its Hockey field, here.
Prof M P S Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, who while speaking highlighted the need for nurturing of sports culture among the youth. He was introduced with players and officials of both the teams and also awarded trophies to the teams.
Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, presided over the function.
The other prominent members present at the function were Prof Avinash Gupta, president CTA, Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor, Ashok Kumar, Vinay Thusu, Nisha Sharma, Sanjeev Jawmal , Gagan Kumar, Ravish Vaid, Raj Kumar Bakshi and Vikas Karlopia.
Earlier, after the match ended goalless in the stipulated time, the result was decided through shootouts, wherein Charanjeet Singh, Sunil Sharma and Sumit Khajuria netted goals for PG Arts, and Vivek Sharma and Kashish Sharma did it for GDC Kathua, to help former trounce latter by (3-2). Meanwhile, Manoj and Mohd Imran missed the goals in the shootout from PG Arts, while Tanvir Singh, Manav Sharma and Arun Chib missed the goals in the shootout for GDC Kathua.
The match was officiated by Dalvinder Singh, Jagjit Singh, Joginder Singh, Mahesh Sharma, Jasbir Singh and P D Singh, Sports Supervisor, University of Jammu.
