PG Deptt emerges overall winner in Wrestling, GGM Science College enters semis in Cricket

JAMMU, Oct 18: Inter-Collegiate Championships in the disciplines of Wrestling, Tennis, Cricket, Hockey and Netball, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, were played here today.
Two day long Inter-Collegiate Wrestling Championship for men concluded at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu.
Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu awarded the medals and trophy to the winners. PG Department again emerged as overall winner by obtaining 17 points.
In 57 kg, Riaz Mohammad of PG Department and Kulbir Singh of GDC Rajouri clinched gold and silver medals respectively, while Rahul Singh of GDC Samba and Pawan Kumar of GDC Udhampur shared bronze medal.
In 61 kg, Paramveer Singh of GDC Paloura and Rahul Kumar of GDC Jindhra secured gold and silver medals respectively, while Sharafat Khan of GDC Rajouri and Ranjeet Verma of PG Department shared bronze medal.
In 65 kg, Ram Saroop of GDC Akhnoor and Govind Ram of GDC Rajouri secured gold and silver medals respectively, while Bupinder of PG Department and Yunas Khan of GDC Kathua shared bronze medal.
In 70 kg, Riaz Hussain of GDC Samba, Dilbagh Verma of PG Department and Manzoor Ahmed of Government MAM College bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In 74 kg, Aslam Khan of GDC Samba and Rahul Dogra of GDC Reasi clinched gold and silver medals respectively, while Jakar Hussain of PG Department and Abinabdeep Sharma of GDC Kathua shared bronze medal.
In 86 kg, Dheeraj Singh of GDC Udhampur and Anuj Singh of GDC Kathua claimed gold and silver medals respectively, while the bronze medal was shared by Mohammad Sultan of GDC Rajouri and Karan Kashap of GGM Science College.
In 97 kg, Rehan Ali of GDC Bishnah and Udhey Sharma of GDC Akhnoor bagged gold and silver medals respectively, while Rahul Saberwal of PG Department and Nitu Singh of GGM Science College shared bronze medal.
In 125 kg, Mohammad Asif of PG Department and Shubam Sharma of GDC Akhnoor clinched gold and silver medals respectively, while the bronze medal was shared by Sahil of GDC Kathua and Irfan of GGM Science College.
The bouts were officiated by Mulkhraj, Sahil Sharma, Bansi Lal, Dheeraj Sharma, Jai Bharat, Vinay Manhas.
In Inter-Collegiate Tennis Tournament being played at Tennis Court, University of Jammu, SPMR College of Commerce will lock horns with GDC Kathua in the summit clash. Earlier in the first semis, SPMR College of Commerce beat GGM Science College by 2-0. In Singles, Nipun beat Chetan by 6-1 and in Doubles, Vinay and Mayank smashed Chetan and Rabjeet. In second semis, GDC Kathua crushed PG Department by 2-0. In Singles, Rohit Verma beat Ankit Sharma by 6-4 and in Doubles, Rohit and Rishab outplayed Ankit and Abhishek by 6-4.
The matches were officiated Ravish Vaid, Gourav Sharma and Deepak Singh.
In Inter-Collegiate Hockey Tournament for men, quarterfinal matches were conducted. In the first quarterfinal match, SPMR College of Commerce beat GGM Science College by 2-0, whereas in the second match, GDC Kathua crushed MAM College by 3-2 via penalty strokes and in the third match, GDC Paloura crushed PG Department Law and Sciences by 3-0.
The matches were officiated by Joginder Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Matinderpal Singh.
In Inter-Collegiate Netball Tournament for men, PG Department lifted the title trophy by defeating MAM College by 19-02.
In Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament for men, GGM Science College entered semis, while Government MAM College registered berth in next stage.
In the first quarterfinal match, GGM Science College registered 15 runs win over GDC Kishtwar. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, GGM Science College made 132 runs by losing 7 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Ankush chipped in 68 runs off 51 balls, while Govind and Sant Baksh made 17 and 12 runs respectively.
For GDC Kishtwar side, Dawood scalped 2 wickets, while Henan, Burhan and Nitin took one wicket apiece.
In reply, GDC failed to chase the target and bundled out at 117 runs by losing all the wickets in 18.4 overs. Henan made 27 runs, while Aaquib made 22 runs, Dawood scored 21 runs and Babar made 13 runs.
For GGM Science College side, Ankush Sharma was the pick of the bowler, who scalped 4 wickets, while Hitesh took 2 wickets and Shubham and Pawan clinched one wicket each.
In the second match, Government MAM College defeated GDC Akhnoor by 8 wickets. Batting first after winning the toss, GDC Akhnoor scored paltry 79 runs by losing 7 wickets in 16 overs. Ashish made 19 runs, while Sumit scored 17 runs.
For Government MAM College side, Yogesh scalped 3 wickets, while Ather and Ashutosh took 2 and one wicket each.
In the second inning, Government MAM College chased the target by losing 2 wickets in 9.5 overs. Sagar played a splendid inning of 57 runs, while Varun made 7 runs.
For GDC Akhnoor side, Jagdish scalped 2 wickets.
The Championships were being organized under the supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
