SRINAGAR, Aug 30: Scores of daily wagers working with Jal Shakti Department today protested here against the delay in the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act in Jammu and Kashmir.

The protesting daily wagers assembled at Press Enclave here and raised slogans in support of their demands. They claimed that LG Manoj Sinha, had assured them that the minimum wage laws would be fully implemented in three months, but that has not happened. “We have gathered here to remind LG Manoj Sinha of his three-month-old promise to implement the minimum wage act. After increasing our pay by 75 rupees, he explained that the minimum wage act benefits had not yet been fully implemented, but we want to point out that five months have passed and the act has still not been put into effect,” “Sajad Parray, president of J&K Casual and Daily Wagers Forum of the PHE Department, said.
He added that the government has formed an advisory board regarding the daily wagers, and they are requesting the members to take the rising costs into account before issuing the report. , “The Minimum Wage Act should be put into effect in a similar manner as in Delhi,” he said.
He, however, threatened to intensify protests if their demands are not fulfilled. “If our demands are not met quickly, we will take to the streets, “he said.
