JAMMU, May 19: As the ongoing indefinite strike by the PHE Daily Wagers entered into 67th day today, a strong protest demonstration was organized by the agitating workers in the front of the Chief Engineer’s office Jammu.
Protesting under the banner of All J&K PHE ITI Trained and CP Workers Association, these workers are demanding regularization of their services and regular wages of ITI Trained/CP Workers/ Need Base/Casual Labour/ Land case etc in the PHE Department.
Led by Tanveer Hussain, the protesting workers raised slogans in support of their demands. They announced to take out a march on foot from Jammu to Kashmir for gherao of the Civil Secretariat on May 24 if their demands are not conceded by May 23.
Demanding to frame proper policy for their regularization and release of their pending wages, they alleged that the Government has turned a deaf ear towards their plights. “Moreover, we are not paid wages for the last 48 months. Even the ITI workers, who were engaged as per Government Cabinet decision number 116/4, dated 11-05, 2006, are not being paid regular wages,” they lamented.
While addressing, Tanveer Hussain alleged that despite assurance by the Finance Minister last year for solving their demands within two or three months, no further action has been taken till date. Many of the workers have been working for the last 15-20 years but they are still waiting for their regularization, he said and threatened to completely stop the water supply.
