PHE employees demand wages for 28 months

UDHAMPUR, Mar 2: Water Works (PHE) Employees Association held a strong protest demonstration in support of CP workers and consolidated employees at PHE Complex under the chairmanship of Som Nath, senior vice president Jammu province.
Employees drawn from Majalta, Mansar, Khoon, Jaganoo, Sounthian, Jib Thathi and Garhi shouted slogans in favour of pending demands. While addressing Mr Som Nath strongly condemned the attitude of higher authorities for not releasing the wages of 24 to 28 months of poor workers, thereby continuing the violation of Minimum Wages Act, from the very beginning.
Mr Som Nath appealed the new Government to release the pending wages of workers at the out set. He said the Association has full faith on the new Government and hoped that genuine demands of the employees would be conceded.
The long genuine demands projected by the demonstrators pertained to Timely disbursement of wages to all workers and employees; Implementation of Minimum Wages Act; Regularization of daily wagers after completion of five years services; Recruitment of staff to man operation of new water supply schemes; Immediate release of DA installments; Benefit of higher education to educated staff; Enhancement in daily wage rate at par with what the private labour is getting at present viz Rs 350 per day; and Payment of wages to such workers who have been engaged in lieu of donation of land to the department but not paid for the past 8 to 9 months.
Others who also spoke included Vijay Sharma, Rattan Singh, Suraj Parkash, Baldev Raj (District president Reasi), Krishan Chand, Balvir Singh, Makhan Chand, Subash Chander, Rajinder Kumar, Ved Parkash etc.
