JAMMU, Oct 24: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today submitted resignation over dilly-dallying tactics of the Government in regularization of casual workers.
Mr Sharma, who was stressing for regularization of casual workers in a time-bound manner during the past quite long time, met president of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz this evening and submitted his resignation for onward submission to the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
“I have submitted the resignation as Government particularly the Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather, who is head of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, is intentionally delaying the regularization of thousands of casual workers, who were engaged from time to time since 1994”, Mr Sharma told EXCELSIOR when contacted.
He said that while Government initiated several steps to meet the demands of the permanent employees, hurdles were being created from certain quarters in regularization of casual workers on one pretext or the other.
“Justice is being denied to such a large number of casual workers since 2009 when Cabinet Sub-Committee was constituted to look into the grievances of all sections of employees and workers”, he said.
He further said that the present Cabinet Sub-Committee, which was revived due to his efforts few months back, thoroughly deliberated upon various aspects relating to regularization of casual workers and after several rounds of discussion a comprehensive policy was worked out and the same was signed by all the members of the Committee including its Chairman, Abdul Rahim Rather.
“But, the same was not submitted to the General Administration Department for placement before the Cabinet for approval and this amounts to denying justice to large number of casual workers”, he said, adding “in protest against continuous injustice with the casual workers I have submitted my resignation to the party chief”.
