JAMMU, Oct 17: Rohan Philem, a 23-year old student in Shardha University, Greater Noida, began his bicycle expedition from the Varsity with an intent to make people aware about the endangered Sangai deer found in Manipur.
Rohan will be covering 3500 km distance from Shardha University to his home state Manipur in 35 days.
Asked about his inspiration behind such initiative, Rohan said, “I believe awareness can make great impacts. This ride is with the aim to make people aware about the fragile environment and endangered Sangai deer in Manipur. My grandfather served as a forest guard protecting the Sangai deer and I promised to make him feel proud one day”.
Rohan will be visiting schools and colleges during his ride and will address issues to the students.
University Chancellor PK Gupta flagged off the marathon ride amidst a big gathering of students.
During the expedition, Rohan will ride through Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland and Mnipur.
