JAMMU, Mar 28: Physics and Electronics Department, Physical Education Department and Law School outplayed their opponents in their respective quarterfinal matches and advanced to the semifinal round of the badminton event, organized during the ongoing Inter-Department Tournament (Men) by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Gymnasium hall, here today.
In the first quarterfinal match, Physics and Electronics Department trounced Commerce Department by straight 2-0 sets. In singles event, Akhil Chouhan of Physics and Electronics Department thrashed Raman Kumar by 21-15 and 21-9 points, whereas, in the second singles event, Rahul Gupta routed Lalit Katoch of Commerce Department by 21-13 and 21-17 points.
In the second quarterfinal match, Physical Education Department thrashed Mathematics Department by 2-0 sets and sailed into the semis of the tournament. Amit Sharma of Physical Education Department beat Akhil Sharma by 21-12 and 21-8 points, whereas, Taranpal Singh trounced Sushil Kumar of Mathematics Department by 21-12 and 21-19 points.
In the third quarterfinal, Law School beat Law Department by 2-0 sets and registered their names in the semifinals. Chander Dev Manhas outplayed Vinay Sharma of Law Department by 21-3 and 21-2 points, while, Anurag Singh of Law School thrashed Abdul Salam by 21-4 and 21-11 points.
In Table Tennis, Physical Education Department trounced Business School by 2-1 sets. In first singles event, Sandeep of Physical Education Department beat Akhil Gour by 11-7 and 11-6 points, whereas, in second singles event, Amit Sharma lost to Madhur Khullar of Business School by 11-8 and 11-9 points. In the finals and doubles event, Sandeep and Amit beat Akhil and Madhur of Business School by 11-9 and 11-7 points.
In the second quarterfinal match, Library Science Department thrashed Mathematics Department by straight 2-0 sets and sailed into semis. In first singles event, Mohd Hassan beat Susheel of Mathematics Department, while in the second singles event, Amit Samotra of Library Science Department thrashed Vimal.
In the third quarterfinal match, Law Department beat Environmental Science Department by straight 2-0 sets. In the first singles event, Vinay Thakur beat Tundup Wamgin of Environmental Science Department, whereas, in the second singles event, Abdul Salam of Law Department thrashed Arun Kumar.
In volleyball, Geology Department thrashed Geography Department by 3-0 sets and advanced to the finals of the event.
In Carrom, Law School thrashed Chemistry Department by 2-1 sets. Akash Gupta trounced Mukesh Sharma of Chemistry Department, while Navdeep of Law School lost to Abhiskek Sharma. In the decider set, Akash and Navdeep of Law School trounced Mukesh and Abhishek.
In the second match, Mathematics Department beat Statistics Department by straight 2-0 sets. Minkal Sharma of Mathematics Department routed Rahul Sharma, whereas, Vimal Singh outplayed Sandeep Charak.
In the third match, Business School trounced MCA Department by 2-0 sets. Rohit Gupta of Business School thrashed Balpreet Singh, whereas, Amit Pal Singh beat Ashish Manotra of MCA Department.
In Chess, Chemistry Department beat Urdu Department by 2-1 sets in the first match. Mukesh Sharma beat Parvez Khan of Urdu Department, whereas Abhishek Sharma of Chemistry Department lost to Romal Singh. In the decider set, Mukesh Sharma outplayed Romal Singh.
In the second match, MCA Department beat Law School by straight 2-0 sets and sailed into the next round. Vishal Sharma thrashed Gagan Oswal of Law School, while Abhinav Khajuria of MCA Department trounced Kulbeer Singh.
In the third match, Law Department routed Mathematics Department by 2-0 sets. Ranvir Singh Parihar of Law Department thrashed Akhil Sharma, whereas, Rajan Bhagat outplayed Samandeep Singh of Mathematics Department.
The matches were officiated by RC Sharma, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Stanzin Namsas, Imtiyaz Ahmed, Pankaj Kumar, Amit Sharma and Taranpal Singh.
The tournament is being organized under the supervision of Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
