Srinagar, Aug 23: The pilgrims are brimming with excitement as they prepare to embark on a journey to the Maha Daneshwar Temple, fondly referred to as ‘Chota Amarnath,’ located in the picturesque landscapes of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The much-anticipated pilgrimage is scheduled to take place on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, falling on August 31, after being on hiatus for several years.
Authorities informed that they have undertaken all necessary preparations to ensure the smooth execution of the pilgrimage, while, they noted, the local populace and members of the Kashmiri Pandit community are equally thrilled about the long-awaited opportunity to visit the temple, which had remained out of reach for them until now.
Latief Ahmad, a resident, expressed the sentiments of his community, stating, “We welcome with open hearts and we are eager to have them finally here.”
He highlighted the anticipation among people from Samthan and Dardpora, the areas through which the yatra, or pilgrimage, will pass.
Authorities from the district administration, including representatives from the DDC Arin, the Police force, and the Revenue department, have meticulously carried out the necessary inspections and made the requisite arrangements.
Officials stated that their proactive approach included safety checks, assessing visibility, and ensuring accessibility of the cave site nestled atop the scenic Samthan forests of Arin.
Elaborating on the logistical details, officials revealed that the village of Kaloosa in Bandipora will serve as a crucial base for pilgrims coming from both north and south Kashmir. “These devotees will then embark on a one-day darshan (sacred visit) to the temple on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.”
From the established base camp, pilgrims will traverse a distance of approximately 17 kilometres on foot, irrespective of weather conditions, to reach the cave.
Officials emphasized that the cave itself spans between 30 to 40 feet in length and opens up into a triangular chamber, capable of accommodating up to seven individuals at a time.
