Pillion rider killed, motorcyclist injured in mishap

KATHUA, June 12: A pillion rider was killed and the motorcyclist seriously injured after the bike on which duo was traveling was hit by an unknown truck at Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Sakthe Chak.
The dead has been identified as Reetal Singh, 17, S/o Raj Singh R/o Dhanivasta while the injured was identified as Tarseem Singh of the same village. As they reached Sakthe Chak a high speed truck came from behind and hit them.
According to police Reetal received a grievous head injury. The duo was shifted to District Hospital Kathua where Reetal succumbed to his injury while Tarseem was shifted to GMC Jammu in a serious condition.
The truck managed to flee from the spot leaving the motorcyclist in a pool of blood. The local people shifted them to Hospital and informed the police. The body of Reetal was handed over to family members after postmortem for cremation.
The Kathua Police has registered a case under relevant sections of the law. However no arrest was made and police failed to trace the truck.
It is second time during last two days that two accidents took place at NH in Kathua district and in both the cases the vehicles managed to fled from the spot due to lack of police vigil and check. This has led to a lot of public resentment in the area.
