Pioneer Corps celebrates Raising Day

UDHAMPUR, Nov 25: Pioneer Corps of Army’s Northern Command celebrated its 74th Raising Day today.
On the occasion, Lieutenant General DS Hooda, GOC-in-C Northern Command, complimented all ranks and their families of the Pioneer Corps and exhorted them to continue to live upto the motto of the Corps “Shram Sarva Vijayee”.
The origin of Pioneers dates back to 1758 in Madras Presidency where the first company of Madras Pioneer was formed and was followed by the raising of Bombay Pioneers in 1777, Sikh Pioneers in 1803 and Bengal Pioneers in 1857.
The Pioneer Corps has acquitted itself in a praiseworthy and commendable manner both during peace and war. The personnel of the Pioneer Corps have been an important link in the logistic chain and have contributed immensely towards sustenance of field formations in all operations. There are six Pioneer units deployed in Northern Command.
The troops of the Pioneer Corps have taken part in all major battles and operations and have a rich heritage of marking sacrifices to safeguard the territorial integrity of our motherland. The Corps has been honoured with 246 gallantry/distinguished awards including six Military Cross, seven Military Medals, five Order of British Empire, three Kirti Chakras, six Shaurya Chakras and three Sena Medals.
