JAMMU,  Nov 13: The Executive Council of Panun Kashmir (PK) met today at Jammu and held a review meeting to take stock of the activities and the latest political developments. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President-Panun Kashmir. It was among others attended by Virender Raina, National Spokesperson, Upinder Kaul, general secretary, Kamal Bagati, Organising secretary, Vijay Qazi, K.K.Kaul, N.M.Gadroo, Surinder Saraf  and Sameer Bhat.
Mr Chrungoo, president-Panun Kashmir in his speech said that PK congratulates all those candidates who have been given the mandate by the BJP to fight the ensuing Assembly elections in the State. It extends its full support to the candidates and appeals to the people in general and Kashmiri Pandits in particular to make them successful. Panun Kashmir also declares its open support to the Narendra Modi led Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) poll campaign for the 2014 Assembly elections, he added.
He said this is the high time for the nationalist forces in the Jammu and Kashmir State to further consolidate the nationalist opinion.  Panun Kashmir leadership traversed the length and breadth of the country in creating a renewed awareness about Kashmir situation and the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits and the continued marginalization of other nationalist forces in the State. We enjoin upon the BJP and the mandated candidates to also focus on the issues pertaining to the plight of the displaced community and dwell upon the measures aimed at the welfare of the displaced community.
Virender Raina, national spokesperson in his speech said that the Kashmiri Pandit community has high expectations from the new dispensation at the Centre and a change in the Government under the banner of BJP will usher a positive atmosphere for the betterment in the State. The State Government has continuously brushed aside the issues relating to the welfare and the long term settlement of the Kashmiri Pandits. There has been an overall tendency to take the nationalist forces away from the politico-administrative system of the State. The landmark recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee have not been allowed to take effect with the result that the displaced community is getting withered away. Mechanisms have been engineered to disenfranchise the community by incorporating M-forms in the voting process for the displaced people of Kashmir. This is a highly cumbersome exercise and as a result the community vote bank has dwindled. Panun Kashmir leadership appeals to the Government to immediately do away with this retrograde step and allow the community to exercise their franchise in a normal manner.
