KARGIL, Nov 8: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan said, theatre is a cultural phenomenon and persuasive medium of communication which acts as mirror to highlight societal problems and promotes social discourse, dialogue and potential social change.
The CEC was addressing a gathering today during the concluding ceremony of 15 days play production oriented theatre workshop organized by Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (LAACL), Kargil where he was chief guest.
Executive Councillor for Health Muhammad, Ali Chandan was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The participating artists in the 15 day workshop staged a Purgi play titled ‘Rongkhang’ depicting results of goodness and sins in the afterlife
CEC Khan expressed optimism that the LAACL would further continue with its endeavors towards promotion of theatre arts among the budding artists in Kargil so that they are able to explore their talent.
He also highlighted the need to make use of theatre as a potential agent and powerful medium to highlight social evils and instructed the officers of LAACL Kargil to showcase such plays on a larger level in future.
Khan announced Rs 20,000 in favour of the participating artists for their admirable presentation of play ‘Rongkhang’.
EC Health, Muhammad Ali Chandan in his address underlined the need of theatre as a medium towards cultural preservation.
Earlier while welcoming the dignitaries, guests, theatre enthusiasts and the participating artists, Deputy Secretary/Special Officer for Cultural Activities Kargil, Nazir Hussain highlighted the initiatives of LAACL Kargil.
The participating artists also shared their workshop experiences.
Later the dignitaries felicitated professional theatre expert Kacho Ahmad Khan for his contribution towards promotion of theatre in Kargil.
The proceedings were conducted by noted Purgi poet and writer Nasiruddin Khafee while District Cultural Officer Kargil Muhammad Ali Tak delivered the vote of thanks.
