JAMMU, Apr 5: Players showed composure and promise on day-3 of the ongoing 1st State Universities Sports Championships organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at the University Sports Stadium, here.
The Championships are going on under the overall supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Organizing Secretary and the Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were HS Chib, Dr Vinond Bakshi, Ajaz Malik, Kuldeep Magotra, Romesh Sharma, Dr Brij Baloria, Ramesh Magotra, Managers / Incharges of the participating teams and staff of the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu.
The competitions are being held in different games including Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Table-Tennis, Basketball and Badminton.
In Football, SKUAST Kashmir defeated SKIMS Soura by (2 – 0) goals. The 1st goal was scored by Rayees Rishi in 22nd minute, while the 2nd goal was netted by Furgaan Farooq in 43rd minute.
In another match, University of Jammu thrashed Central University Jammu by (7-1) goals. Avinash was the star performer from University of Jammu, who scored 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals in 5th, 8th, 40th and 45th minutes of the match, while 5th and 7th goal was scored by Achal Sharma in 49th and 57th minutes and the 6th goal was scored by Dharampal Singh in 53rd minute of the match.
The matches were officiated by Suresh Gupta, Moon Stephen, Dheeraj Menia, Rahul Sharma, Arun Kumar and Gagan Kumar.
In Volleyball, (Men), University of Kashmir defeated BGSBU Rajouri by 3-2 sets (25 – 21, 25 – 21, 18 – 25, 22 – 25, 15 – 13), while in another match, University of Jammu also defeated SKUAST Kashmir by 3- 0 sets (25 -12, 25 – 09, 25 – 18).
In Volleyball (Women), University of Jammu defeated BGSBU Rajouri by (3-1) sets (25 – 06, 25 – 13, 22 – 25, 25 – 07), while another match, University of Kashmir got better of SMVDU Katra by (3-0) sets (25 – 18, 25 – 16, 25 – 13).
In Basketball (Women), University of Jammu trounced Central University Jammu by (17 – 01) in a one-sided match, while in another match in women section, SMVDU Katra prevailed over SKIMS Soura (08 – 03).
In Basketball (Men), NIT Srinagar defeated BGSBU Rajouri (45 – 04).
In Badminton (Men), University of Jammu beat RSS Jammu easily. In singles, Manider Singh beat Sanjay by (21 – 02, 21 – 04) and Shivam defeated Vivek by (21 – 15, 21 – 06), while in doubles, Maninder and Shivam got better of Vivek and Vikesh by (21 – 06, 21 – 05).
In Badminton (Women), University of Jammu defeated Central University of Jammu. In singles, Prabhjyot beat Diksha Mahajan (21 – 16 – 22 – 20) and in doubles, Prabhjyot and Suvidha drubbed Diksha and Arushi (21 – 04, 21 – 06).
University of Jammu lifted 1st State Universities Sports Championship in Badminton both in Men and Women Sections.
In Table Tennis (Men), Central University Jammu and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Katra, qualified for semifinals to be played tomorrow.
In 1st Match, Central University Jammu outplayed University of Kashmir in a keenly contested match. Mohandeep Singh beat Sofi-Ullah by (11- 09, 11 – 04, 14 – 12), Mayaukh lost to Minham by (9 – 11, 03 – 11, 05 – 11), Narinder Kumar beat Kartikya Bay (11 – 09, 06 – 11, 11 – 06), Mehardeep lost to Minham by (4 – 11, 4 – 11, 1 – 11) and Mayukh outclassed Sofi-Ullah by (11 – 03, 11 – 05, 11 – 01)
In the 2nd Match, SMVDU Katra beat SKAUST Jammu by (3 – 0). Sanjay Sharma trounced Kapil by 3-2, Suraj Suri beat Rahul Kumar by 3 – 0 and Rohit Sharma drubbed Rajeev Sharma by 3 – 0, while in the 3rd Match, BGSBU Rajouri got better of SKUAST Kashmir by 3-2. Asfand Yarkhan beat Shabir Hussain by 3-0, Sajid Shabir lost to Rochak Subha by 0-3, Shahid Mustaq trounced Sachin by 3-2, Shahid Shabir lost to Shabir by 2-3 and Asfand Yarkhan trounced Rochak Subha by 3-0.
In Table-Tennis (Women), BGSBU got walkover against SKUAST Kashmir in the first match, while in the 2nd match, SMVDU Katra beat Central University Jammu by 3-0, Gurmeet Kour got better of Surbhi by 3-1, Mahima Gupta beat Sumadha by 3-0 and Sharya Manhas beat Poonam by 3-2.
In Cricket (Men), two matches were played today.
In the first match, University of Kashmir defeated Central University Jammu by 43 runs, while in the second match, University of Jammu defeated SKIMS Soura, Kashmir by 62 runs.
The matches were officiated by Suresh Singh, Saleem-ur-Rehman, Sadiq Hussain Malik, Vijay Kumar, Vinod and Raj Kumar Bakshi.
