JAMMU, Nov 26: State Excise Department has registered a growth of 8.52 percent in first seven months of the current fiscal with a revenue collection of Rs 565.04 crore which is Rs 44.35 crore more than the revenue realised during the corresponding period of last fiscal.
This was given out at a review meeting of the Excise Department held here today under the chairmanship of the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, A R Rather. Principal Secretary Finance, B B Vyas, Excise Commissioner Vineeta Gupta, all Deputy Excise Commissioners and other officers were present in the meeting.
While reviewing the enforcement activities undertaken by the department, the Minister was informed that 108 persons were arrested in 2043 raids and 2335 kg of lahan destroyed during the period, and a penalty of Rs 27.17 lakh recovered from the offenders. In addition, 660 bottles of intoxicating drugs were seized and bhang on 2122 kanal of land was destroyed while 10185 kgs of polythene was also siezed during checking.
The Minister said that the department has maintained a healthy growth rate in revenue collection which has been achieved with the efficient functioning of the officers and the field functionaries. He stressed that there is a need to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to plug loopholes causing revenue leakage.
