NEW DELHI, July 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underlined the need to have high quality debate and take major decisions in Parliament so that the nation can move ahead on a fast-forward track.
Addressing the media on the first day of the Monsoon Session, on his arrival at the Parliament House today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the 70th year of India’s independence which is going to be observed a few weeks away on August 15. Describing it as a major milestone, he said, the Parliament Session which begins today, ahead of the 70th Independence Day, assumes special significance when we remember the great freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country.
“Our 70 year old journey (of independence) will scale new heights in this session”, said Prime Minister and added “for this purpose, the need is to have high quality debates.
Prime Minister Modi said, that all the political parties and leaders have, over the past few days, individually and collectively, shared the same sentiment. We are all committed to take the best of the decisions for the benefit of the country and to carry relations forward further, he said.
Meanwhile, outside the Parliament, responding to a series of queries related to the situation in Jammu & Kashmir, Dr Jitendra Singh reiterated Prime Minister’s concern that the civilian or the innocent population of the Valley should not suffer from any harm or injury. He said, the Centre is offering full assistance and cooperation to the State Government in dealing with the situation. He said,it is an occasion for all of us to come together in the bid to restore normalcy in the State.
