POONCH, Apr 24: A `Mehfil-e-Mushaira’ ( poets’ meet) was organized by the District Police, Poonch at Govt Higher Secondary School here today.
Prominent poets from various areas of the district including Mandi, Surankote, Mendhar and Poonch-Haveli participated in the programme. The spell bound presentations of the noted poets of the area brought applauds in the `Mehfil’. Prominent among those who recited their poems and attended function included Hisam-ud-Din Betab, K D Maini, Mohd Sibtam Ansari, Akber Ali Bandey, Shabi-ul-Hassan, Niaz Kirmani, Ajmat Jaffri and Jalil Gazi.
S P Poonch Shamsher Hussain while speaking on the occasion underscored the objective of organizing such programme. He said the Police always tried to provide platform to the talented singers, poets and sportsmen besides channelizing the energy of the youth in right direction. He assured his cooperation in organizing such events in future as well. Mr Hussain also assured Police support in developing a play ground in the area.
Prominent among others included DySP Headquartrs Mohd Rashid Bhat, DySP DAR Mohd Azeem Qureshi, SHO Barkat Qurshi, Ghulam Abbas, Shamim Ganai and Abdul Ahad.
