PoJK DPs protest for highlighting demands

JAMMU, May 14: Highlighting their demands, Displaced Persons from Pak occupied Kashmir in 1947, 1965 and 1971, held a strong protest demonstration, here today for early action by the Government on their issues.
Shouting slogans in support of their demands and carrying banners, the protesting DPs were particularly up in arms against the BJP-led Central Government for its alleged failure to address their grievances despite making tall promises to the community before coming to power.
The protest demonstration was organized under the banner of PoJK DPs’ Front of 1947, 1965 and 1971. A large number of DPs, including women and elderly persons, took part in the protest.
While addressing the protesters, president of PoJK DPs Front, Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib highlighted long pending demands of the displaced community, which has been striving hard for the past 67 years to get their right.  “DPs had great hope from BJP Governments, both at Centre and State but no fruitful results are visible so far,” he lamented.
Yudhvir Singh demanded ownership rights to DPs for the allotted land, compensation of minimum Rs 30 lakh to each family of DPs for their left over property and houses in PoK, enlistment of left out DPs and their registration, issuance of ALC Certificate to all DPs, 15 percent reservation to wards of DPS in professional college, Backward status to DPs, monthly stipend to landless DPs, reservation of 25 Assembly seats for PoJK DPs, etc.  He also demanded early verification of non-camp refugees and distribution among them Rs 68 lakh, which are lying with DC Jammu.
He appealed all DPs to remain united for further struggle to achieve their goal, for which they have had been fighting for the last 67 years.
The protesters were also addressed by Jai Pal Sharma, Sakandya Devi, R P Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Kulbir Singh, Pawan Slathia, Hari Singh, Babloo and others.
