JAMMU, Apr 3: Political Science Department and Commerce Department outplayed their opponents in their respective matches and advanced to the next round of the cricket event, organized during the ongoing Inter-Department Tournament (Men) by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at varsity grounds here today.
In the first match, Political Science Department registered 73 runs victory over MCA Department and sailed into the next round.
Batting first, Political Science Department scored 155 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Sajaad Malik and Shakeel Ahmed played well and chipped in half centuries, while Ankush Sharma also contributed 16 runs including three boundaries.
For MCA Department side, Pardeep Sharma scalped 2 wickets, while Aditya and Sahib took one wicket apiece.
In the second inning, MCA Department failed to chase the target and bundled out at paltry 82 runs by loosing all the wickets in 14.5 overs.
For Political Science Department side, Narinder took five wickets by giving just 5 runs in his just two overs, whereas, Rayees and Shakeel took 2 wickets each. Bilal also pocketed one wicket.
In the second match, Commerce Department thrashsed Statistics Department by 16 runs in a nail biting match and registered birth in the next round of the tournament.
Electing to bat first, after winning the toss, Commerce Department set a target of 149 runs infront of its opponent team. During the process, Commerce Department lost only 4 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Rajat Sharma was the top scorer with 27 runs, while, Dilawar Singh, Yashpal and Sunil contributed 18, 16 and 15 runs respectively.
For Statistics Department side, Akhlish scalped 2 wickets, while, Sunny and Raja took one wicket each.
In the second inning, players of Statistics Department tried their level best to clinch the match but were restricted by the Commerce Department players near the target. Statistics Department scored 133 runs for all out in 18.3 overs and lost the match by just 16 runs. Raja was the top scorer with 46 runs, while Hardeep and Sunny Babber made 15 and 14 runs respectively.
For Commerce Department side, Dilawar Singh was the pick of the bowler with 3 wickets, while Satwinder Singh took 2 wickets. Anil, Sabbir and Yashpal also claimed one wicket each.
The matches were officiated by Suresh Singh, Raj Kumar, Vijay Dogra and Jagtar Singh as umpires, while, Manu Khajuria maintained the scoreboard.
The tournament is being organized under the supervision of Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
