Police Cricket tournament concludes with prize distribution

SAMBA, Apr 15: A closing ceremony of Cricket Championship was organized today by District Police under Civic Action Programme (CAP) at Sports Stadium Purmandal, here wherein Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Benam Tosh was the chief guest.
He was accompanied by SDPO Bari Brahmana, Rahul Nagar, SHO Purmandal Vijay Verma and presented cash rewards of Rs 60000 along with certificates to the players in the presence of PRIs and prominent citizens of the area.
A large number of people were present at the impressive closing ceremony including DDC Purmandal Avtar Singh, Sarpanch Khara Anil Sharma, Sarpanch Deon Rashid Mohd., Naib Sarpanch Khara Manjeet Singh, Naib Sarpanch Deon Mohan Singh, Panch Purmandal Pooja Sharma, Panch Khara Javed Ahmed, Master Govind and students of various schools.
In the tournament, a total of 10 teams from different areas of the district participated, which was played on knockout basis. Two semi-finals were played between Team Deon Cricket Club Vs Team Utterbehani-A and Team Purmandal Cricket Club Vs Sangar Cricket Team in which Team Deon Cricket Club and Purmandal Cricket Club won seminal matches and reached the final of the championship.
The final match was played between Deon Cricket Club and Purmandal Cricket Club in which team Purmandal Cricket Club under the captainship of Mohan Lal emerged as overall winner, whereas Deon Cricket Club under the captainship of Sethi Kumar stood runner up in the tournament.
The SSP said that it was the first ever tournament organized by J&K Police at Purmandal in which players of 10 teams took part and thousands of people witnessed the matches. He said that Police is going to organize at least three other programmes including one grand anti-drug awareness programme at and in adjoining areas of Purmandal very shortly.
“Purmandal is least affected with heroin (‘chitta’) and crime graph of this area is comparatively lowest in the entire district,” he said, adding that the youth are being properly groomed by the elders of the society and are being fascinated towards games, cultural activities and studies.
“Police will provide 80 desks to Govt. Higher Secondary School Khara for the use of students,” SSP announced.
