JAMMU, Dec 27: The police foiled the protest rally of  PoK refugees when they started marching towards Gumat Bazar, Shalamar and Civil Secretariat here today.
A large number of  PoK refugees led by Rachhpal Singh Chib, under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir PoK Refugees Front-1947, 65, 71  assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club and started protest demonstration. A large number of women activists also joined the protest.
They were also carrying banners and placards and raising slogans in support of their demands. They also shouted slogans against the State and Central Governments. They alleged that Government has failed in resolving the issues of the refugees. Only assurances have been given by the visiting ministers and leaders of various political parties.
Mr Chib while addressing the gathering said that an 8-member committee  of Home Affairs from New Delhi visited Jammu November  5-7, 2013  here and heard the PoJK refugees and others from Chhamb at State Guest House on November 7 this year. The State Government was represented by Revenue Secretary Vinod Koul and Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu. The draft package for final settlement as already reported in section of press is meager and is not acceptable, said the refugee leaders.
After several speeches when the refugees started their protest march towards Dogra Chowk and Gumat Bazar and a strong contingent of police stopped them and did not allow. Their protest march was foiled by resorting to mild cane-charge by cops.
