JAMMU, Feb 9: Police Friendship Cricket Tournament for rural youths got underway at Country Cricket Academy Gharota, near here today.
Shiva Club Chowki Choura and Thathi Cricket Club registered victories in their first matches and entered into the quarterfinal stage.
In the opening function Vikrant Sharma, Director Country Cricket Academy Gharota was the chief guest who declared the tournament open.
While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest applauded the initiative of the District Police Jammu for holding the tournament.
Earlier, Shiva Club Chowki Choura defeated KCC Akhnoor by 25 runs.
Batting first, Shiva Club scored 151 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs with Sahil Mishra (66) and Arman (25) being the main scorers. From bowling side, Ajay and Abhishek took 2 wickets each, while Deepak and Anil shared 1 wicket each.
In reply, KCC Akhnoor bundled out for 126 runs, thus lost the match by 25 runs. Surinder (33), Arush Jamwal (22) and Ajay (20) were the main scorers. From bowling side, Atul took 4 wickets, while Arush bagged 2 wickets. Pankaj and Vipan claimed 1 wicket each. Sahil Mishra was declared as man of the match.
In another match, Thathi Cricket Club defeated Jandial Cricket Club by 28 runs.
Batting first, Thathi Club made 135 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Kirpal top scored with 34 runs, while Bhupinder and Yogesh contributed 15 and 14 runs respectively. From bowling side, Sanjeev Sharma took 3 wickets and Gourav Bhat took 2 wickets.
In reply Jandial Cricket Club, managed to score 108 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs thus lost the match by 28 runs. Mohit Sharma, Sanjeev Sharma and Gourav Bhat contributed 33, 27 and 11 runs respectively. From bowling side, Yogesh took 2 wickets while Shubham, Bunty, Rakesh, Anil, Sukhdev and Vikas claimed 1 wicket each. Kirpal was adjudged as the man of the match.
